Abstract

This study aims to analyze the construction and contextualization of Islamic eco-theological epistemology at Amanatul Ummah Islamic Boarding School. A qualitative case study design was employed using interviews, observations, and analysis of Eco-Pesantren documents. The data were analyzed thematically to identify patterns of ecological knowledge construction and value internalization. The findings reveal three main points: (1) the epistemic foundations of Islamic eco-theology are constructed through the integration of the Qur’an, Hadith, kitab kuning, and the intellectual traditions of pesantren; (2) the kyai’s ecological thought synthesizes the values of tawhid, amanah, khalifah, and al-mīzān with responses to contemporary environmental challenges; and (3) these values are contextualized through learning, exemplary conduct, habituation, and environmental practices, thereby fostering a collective ecological ethic among students. The study concludes that Eco-Pesantren functions not only as an environmental program but also as a space for producing and internalizing Islamic-based ecological knowledge. These findings imply the need to integrate theology, institutional culture, and ecological praxis systematically within Islamic boarding school education to strengthen environmental sustainability.
