GenAI Policies

Islamic Journal of Integrated Science Education (IJISE) [p-ISSN 2986-6189 | e-ISSN 2986-0865] acknowledges the increasing use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) tools in academic writing and scholarly communication. To ensure transparency, academic integrity, and accountability, IJISE establishes the following policy regarding the responsible use of GenAI tools in manuscript preparation and submission.

Acceptable Use of GenAI

Authors are permitted to use GenAI tools for the following purposes:

  • Language editing and grammar improvement, including clarity, readability, and stylistic refinement;

  • Formatting assistance, such as reference organization, citation style adjustment, and structural consistency;

  • Idea organization, including outlining manuscripts or summarizing existing literature for background understanding.

Prohibited Use of GenAI

The use of GenAI tools is strictly prohibited for:

  • Generating fabricated, falsified, or manipulated data, results, or references;

  • Producing figures, tables, or images that misrepresent scientific findings;

  • Replacing essential intellectual contributions, including hypothesis development, research design, data analysis, interpretation, or conclusion formulation.

Disclosure Requirement

Authors must explicitly disclose any use of GenAI tools in the manuscript, preferably in the Acknowledgments or Methods section.

The disclosure must clearly state:

  • The name of the GenAI tool used (e.g., ChatGPT, Grammarly, Copilot);

  • The specific purpose of its use (e.g., language editing, formatting support).

Authorship and Responsibility

  • GenAI tools cannot be listed as authors or co-authors;

  • Human authors retain full responsibility for the originality, accuracy, ethical integrity, and scholarly content of the manuscript;

  • Any errors, bias, or ethical issues arising from the use of GenAI remain the sole responsibility of the authors.

Editorial and Peer Review Process

  • All submitted manuscripts may be screened for inappropriate or undisclosed use of GenAI;

  • Editors and reviewers may request clarification if GenAI involvement is suspected but not declared;

  • Undisclosed, unethical, or misleading use of GenAI may result in manuscript rejection, correction, or retraction in accordance with journal publication ethics.
